We will start at the beginning by looking at the Hebrew word for “Spirit,” and according to the Blue Letter Bible Dictionary, the word is “rûaḥ (roo’-akh)” (H7307), the term “breath” is the same word. We find in the Greek the term “pneuma (pnyoo’-mah)” (G4151), meaning a current of air, breath, blast, or breeze.
It also has an understanding of a “spirit,” Ghost, mind, or life. But what is this “Spirit” when we apply it to the masses at the foot of Mount Sinai? We could argue that all religions start when one or more people have an experience, and they share it with others who are willing to join in. However, what happens when “millions” of people, according to some estimates, are subjected to the same event?
