Yom Teruah: The Feast of Trumpets and Its True Meaning

Yom Teruah, also called the Feast of Trumpets, is one of the appointed times YAHUAH commands His people to observe. Unlike ordinary days, this Feast carries a deep prophetic meaning and points directly to the return of the Messiah. In fact, Yom Teruah is the fifth of the seven appointed Feasts that YAHUAH gave to Israel. Its name means “day of shouting” or “blasting,” which explains why it is also known as the Day of Trumpets. During this Feast, we are instructed to blow the Shofar and reflect on YAHUAH’s promises.

Biblical Foundation of Yom Teruah

Leviticus 23:23-25 says:
“And ELOHIM spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a Sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation. Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto ELOHIM.”
Therefore, Yom Teruah is not just a day of rest but also a memorial and a prophetic shadow of future events.

The Prophetic Connection

Moreover, 1 Thessalonians 4:16 connects this Feast to the second coming of YAHUSHUA:
“For Messiah himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of ELOHIM; and the dead in YAHUSHUA shall rise first.”
The shout and trumpet blast are not random. Rather, they align with Yom Teruah’s command to blow the Shofar as a signal of awakening.

Why This Feast Matters Today

The spring Feasts were fulfilled in Messiah’s first coming: He died on Passover, rose on First Fruits, and sent the Ruach (Holy Spirit) on Shavuot. Likewise, the fall Feasts—including Yom Teruah—foreshadow His return. Trumpets also served as battle cries and royal proclamations. Thus, when YAHUSHUA returns, He will come as both King and Judge.
