Why Examine Valentine’s Day?
Valentine’s Day is often celebrated as a day of love, affection, and romantic connection. But for those who are set apart as Hebrew Israelites—called by YAHUAH to walk in truth and righteousness—this feast day is more than just a distraction: it is a direct violation of YAH’s commandments.
“Thus saith the ELOHIM, Learn not the way of the heathen…” — Jeremiah 10:2 KJV
Why is this important? Because participating in feasts not commanded by YAHUAH—especially those rooted in paganism—is an act of spiritual adultery. The enemy thrives on disguising wickedness with sentiment, and Valentine’s Day is a perfect example of this deception.
The Roman Pagan Roots: Lupercalia and Fertility Rites
Before there was Valentine’s Day, there was Lupercalia, an ancient Roman celebration held in mid-February. It honored the gods Faunus (Roman fertility god) and Lupa, the she-wolf said to have nursed Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome. This unholy day involved:
Sacrifices of goats and dogs at the altar of Lupercus.
Men running naked through the city, whipping women with animal hides to promote fertility.
Sexual pairings by lottery, encouraging fornication.
This was a festival of chaos, sexual perversion, and blood, which the Roman Catholic Church tried to “sanitize” by linking it to the mythical figure “Saint Valentine.”
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” — Ephesians 5:11 KJV
The reality is, this was never a celebration of godly love, but rather a fertility cult masquerading as modern-day cards and chocolate.
Cupid, Eros, and the God of Lust
The imagery of Cupid, often shown as a cherubic child with wings and a bow, is not innocent. Cupid is a Roman adaptation of the Greek god Eros, the god of sexual desire and lust. According to Greek myth, Eros would shoot magical arrows that stirred uncontrollable lust in people.
In ancient depictions, Eros is often naked, symbolizing carnal temptation.
Eros was worshipped in temples that practiced ritual prostitution.
The arrow, symbolizing piercing love, mimics spiritual possession.
This is not the love described in 1 Corinthians 13. The Bible warns against such seducing spirits:
“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits…” — 1 Timothy 4:1 KJV
Valentine’s Day spiritually glorifies the spirit of Eros/Cupid, a demon of lust. This is a trap for believers that conditions the heart to accept false versions of love.
Valentine’s Day and the Spirit of Whoredom
Valentine’s Day glorifies unmarried romantic relationships, extramarital affairs, and promiscuous behavior. This directly feeds into the spirit of whoredom described in Scripture.
“They will not frame their doings to turn unto their God: for the spirit of whoredoms is in the midst of them, and they have not known the ELOHIM.” — Hosea 5:4 KJV
This is more than symbolic. The music, media, and advertising that surround Valentine’s Day constantly push:
Sensuality over covenant
Infatuation over commitment
Emotion over obedience
The Torah never commands us to celebrate love through carnal expression. Instead, it calls us to keep our vessels holy, avoid fornication, and practice love through truth and action—not idolatrous feast days.
What the Bible Says About Pagan Traditions
The Most High is jealous for His people and strictly prohibits the mingling of His ways with heathen practices:
“Take heed… that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.” — Deuteronomy 12:30 KJV
Even changing the name of the pagan holiday does not make it holy. This principle is seen throughout Scripture, where Israel was punished for mixing truth with falsehood (e.g., the golden calf incident, Baal worship).
“Ye cannot drink the cup of the ELOHIM, and the cup of devils…” — 1 Corinthians 10:21 KJV
Valentine’s Day is not an isolated tradition—it is part of a system of spiritual Babylon, crafted to keep people emotionally bound and spiritually distracted from YAH’s appointed times and His definition of love.
The Modern Expression is in Commercialized Idolatry and Emotional Manipulation
In today’s world, Valentine’s Day has been fully commercialized, pulling on emotions for financial gain. But the deeper issue is spiritual enslavement:
Youth are trained from childhood to associate love with materialism.
Emotional “soul ties” are formed through gifts, music, and fornication.
Divine covenant is replaced with temporary passion.
Billions of dollars are spent each year on cards, chocolates, lingerie, and vacations—all to glorify a day rooted in demonic origins. It is emotional idolatry wrapped in pink paper.
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” — Jeremiah 17:9 KJV
YAHUSHUA teaches that love is proven through obedience:
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” — John 14:15 KJV
Torah-Centered Love vs. Pagan Love
Biblical love is covenant-based, lawful, enduring, and holy. It prioritizes righteousness and truth over pleasure. The Torah teaches:
Love protects (Exodus 22:22-24)
Love instructs in righteousness (Leviticus 19:17)
Love endures and serves others (1 Corinthians 13)
Pagan love, by contrast, is:
Rooted in feelings and flesh
Subject to change and selfishness
Built on visual lust and emotional impulse
Valentine’s Day teaches that love is about indulgence. But the Most High teaches that love is about sacrifice, loyalty, and truth.
Come Out From Among Them
Valentine’s Day is not “just a holiday.” It is a false feast, a demonic snare, and a direct affront to the holiness of YAHUAH.
“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the ELOHIM…” — 2 Corinthians 6:17 KJV
Hebrew Israelites must not engage in traditions rooted in lust, witchcraft, and idolatry. Instead, we must teach our families and communities the true definition of love: YAH’s commandments and the covenant relationship He offers His chosen.
