The Rise of Deception in the Last Days
One of the most defining characteristics of the last days is not simply moral decline, global instability, or political confusion—it is widespread spiritual deception. The Scriptures do not present deception as a minor issue or an occasional problem. Instead, deception is described as a central weapon of the adversary, especially as the end of the age approaches.
When YAHUSHUA HA’ MASHIAC was asked about the signs of the end, His very first warning was not about war, famine, or natural disasters. It was about deception.
Matthew 24:4-5 (KJV)
“And YAHUSHUA answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.”
This is not a light warning. He did not say deception would be rare—He said many would be deceived. This immediately shows that deception in the last days would not be obvious or easily detected. It would be subtle, persuasive, and often wrapped in religious language.
Notice something deeper: these deceivers come “in my name.” That means they do not always appear openly rebellious. They do not necessarily deny YAHUAH. They often claim to represent Him. They may quote Scripture. They may speak confidently. They may even appear sincere. Yet, despite all of this, they are leading many into error.
This is what makes last-day deception so dangerous—it often appears to be the truth.
Matthew 24:24 (KJV)
“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”
Here we see the intensity increase. These false teachers and prophets will not only speak—they will demonstrate power. Signs and wonders will accompany deception. This means believers cannot rely on emotional experiences, supernatural manifestations, or outward appearances as proof of truth. Even miracles can be counterfeit.
The phrase “if it were possible” tells us something critical. The deception will be so strong that it will come close to misleading even those who are chosen—those who are serious about truth. That means in this hour, surface-level understanding is not enough. Casual belief is not enough. Cultural religion is not enough.
A believer must be deeply rooted, spiritually discerning, and scripturally grounded to recognize deception.
What Is Deception According to Scripture?
To recognize deception, we must first understand what it is. In Scripture, deception is not simply being mistaken. It is a spiritual condition where falsehood is accepted as truth, often because it appeals to something within the individual.
Deception can be external, but it often begins internally.
Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV)
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
This verse challenges a very popular modern idea—that people should “follow their heart.” According to Scripture, the heart itself is deceitful. That means if a person relies only on feelings, emotions, or internal impressions, they can easily be misled.
Deception often works by aligning with what a person wants to believe, rather than what is actually true.
Proverbs 14:12 (KJV)
“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
Notice the phrase “seemeth right.” Deception does not feel wrong at first. It feels logical. It feels comfortable. It feels acceptable. But the end is destruction. This shows that deception is dangerous precisely because it does not immediately appear dangerous.
Another key element of deception is that it often involves a mix of partial truth and error. Pure lies are easier to detect. But when truth is blended with falsehood, it becomes harder to discern.
This is exactly how Satan operated from the beginning.
Genesis 3:1 (KJV)
“Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made…”
The word “subtil” means crafty, deceptive, and cunning. The serpent did not begin by openly denying YAHUAH. He began by questioning and slightly altering what YAHUAH said. This pattern has not changed. Deception still works by:
Twisting truth
Reframing truth
Adding to truth
Removing from truth
This is why the believer must know the Word in full context, not just isolated verses. This means you have to do as the word says, “study to show thyself approved.” You have to not only know the scriptures but also know the context of what was going on at the time it was said and why it was being said. Lastly, to make sure you have the proper context, you should read a proper translation, not a purposeful mistranslation (which are even found in the King James Bible), put there to confuse you.
It will take years of study, but in the end, it will better prepare you for the enemy’s deceptions. Luckily, you should find a drumbeat in the scriptures that will continue, no matter which book you are reading. The scripture basically says the same thing in different ways, so that you will know when something is not supposed to be there. (See our book, The Path: Of Righteousness and Knowing the Father and the Son: Those who seek the truth will find it)
Why Deception Is Increasing in This Generation
The increase in deception is not random—it is prophetic and intentional.
2 Timothy 3:1,13 (KJV)
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.”
“But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”
This shows a progression. Deception does not remain static—it grows. It intensifies. It multiplies. Those who deceive become bolder, and those who are deceived become more convinced.
We are now living in a time where:
Information is abundant
Opinions are amplified
Doctrines are multiplied
Voices are everywhere
But truth is not increasing at the same rate—confusion is.
This is why discernment is more necessary now than ever before.
1 Timothy 4:1 (KJV)
“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.”
This verse reveals something critical: deception is not just intellectual—it is spiritual. There are seducing spirits behind false doctrines. That means some teachings are not simply incorrect—they are influenced by spiritual forces designed to lead people away from truth.
This is why debating alone is not enough. This is why intellect alone is not enough. There must be spiritual awareness.
The Root Cause: A Lack of Love for Truth
One of the most important revelations in Scripture is that deception thrives where there is no love for truth.
2 Thessalonians 2:10 (KJV)
“…because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.”
This verse does not say they did not hear the truth. It says they did not love the truth.
There is a difference.
A person can hear truth and reject it.
A person can understand truth and still walk away.
A person can even teach truth without loving it.
To love truth means:
You accept the correction
You are willing to change
You submit to the Word, aka Torah
You prioritize righteousness (defined as Torah in the scriptures) over comfort
Without this love, a person becomes vulnerable.
2 Thessalonians 2:11 (KJV)
“And for this cause YAHUAH shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:”
This is one of the most sobering verses in Scripture. It shows that when people continually reject truth, they are eventually given over to deception. This is not simply Satan deceiving people—this is a judgment that allows deception to take hold.
This is why recognizing deception begins with the heart. If the heart is not aligned with truth (Torah), the mind will not recognize it.
The Many Forms of Deception in the Last Days
Deception does not come in only one form. It appears in many ways, often depending on the individual’s weakness.
Religious Deception
Some deception comes through false doctrines, traditions of men, and teachings that contradict Scripture while claiming to represent YAHUAH.
Mark 7:7 (KJV)
“Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”
Every major Abrahamic religion—Christianity, Judaism, and Islam—builds upon a doctrine created by men that misinterprets the exclusive promise YAHUAH made to the Israelites. The central issue is their attempt to “universalize” a covenant intended only for the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. This covenant, meant for one specific group, was removed from the Israelites for disobedience but later reinstated by YAHUAH through YAHUSHUA Ha’ Mashiac’s sacrifice. His act replaced the punishment the Israelites deserved for turning from YAHUAH’s covenant. According to YAHUAH, this renewed covenant will last forever and guarantees the Israelites a place in the Kingdom of Heaven with YAHUAH and YAHUSHUA.
However, all three religions claim the covenant is for the “believers” in their version of “god,” deny the Israelites’ covenant, or claim it was “renewed,” and say entry to YAHUAH’s Kingdom requires adherence to their practices. These ideas are purposefully deceitful by mixing lies with truth to confuse the Israelites who follow their false doctrines.
(See our book, Knowing the Father and the Son: Those who seek the truth will find it, and What is the Gospel?)
Moral Deception
This is when sin is redefined as acceptable.
Isaiah 5:20 (KJV)
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil…”
This is extremely visible today. What Scripture condemns is often celebrated, and what Scripture upholds is often criticized. So what the world often sees as a “wrong way of living” actually is the right way that YAHUAH has said He wants us to live. Your morals should be defined as coming from His morals. He should always be the foundation stone or well that you gather and build your own morals from.
(See our book, The Path: Of Righteousness)
Self-Deception
Perhaps the most dangerous form.
James 1:22 (KJV)
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
A person can believe they are right with YAH while living in disobedience. The only way to know the difference is to try to keep the Torah’s laws, believe and accept YAHUSHUA’s sacrifice to you, and understand that you, as an Israelite, have been predestined to be a Priest and a Prince/Princess in the kingdom of YAHUAH. So, if you are already chosen by YAHUAH, you are walking out every day towards the changes He has made for you, leading you to the point of your appointment in the Book of Life.
(See our book, The Chosen Seed: Predestination)
Developing Spiritual Discernment
In an age of deception, discernment is essential.
Hebrews 5:14 (KJV)
“…who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”
Discernment is not automatic. It is developed through:
Consistent study
Obedience
Experience
Prayer
1 John 4:1 (KJV)
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits…”
Everything must be tested—not accepted blindly.
Anchoring Yourself in Truth
The only true protection against deception is being anchored in the Word.
John 17:17 (KJV)
“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
Truth is not opinion. Truth is not culture. Truth is the Word.
Psalm 119:160 (KJV)
“Thy word is true from the beginning…”
If you want to recognize deception, you must know the truth deeply. Study the scriptures and get proper teaching from an upright Israelite who is righteous in his everyday life. Meditate on the word and pray to YAHUAH to guide your path. Test the spirit of people who come to you with their ideas about the world around you. If they do not keep the ways of our forefathers in righteousness, understand that they will most likely be lying, either knowingly or unknowingly. (See our book, The Holiest Day of the Year Yom Kippur: Preparing for the King’s Return)
Stay Awake in a Deceived World
We are living in a time where deception is increasing, intensifying, and spreading across every area of life. But the Israelite believer is not called to fear—he is called to discern, stand, and remain faithful.
Romans 13:11 (KJV)
“…now it is high time to awake out of sleep…”
This is the hour to be alert.
This is the hour to be grounded.
This is the hour to love truth deeply.
Because in the last days, many will be deceived—but those who remain rooted in the Word will not be moved.
