Why Time Matters to YAHUAH
In a world that runs on Roman clocks and Gregorian months, it’s easy to forget that time—real, sacred time—is a creation of YAHUAH. From the very beginning, He established the lights in the heavens “for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years” (Genesis 1:14). These weren’t just astronomical measurements—they were appointed times (moedim) for worship, covenant, and instruction.
Yet today, nearly every culture on earth follows a system that has no connection to YAHUAH’s ordained calendar. This is not just a mistake; it is a hijacking—intentional and prophetic. The enemy of righteousness has worked to change both times and laws (Daniel 7:25), and understanding this deception is key to walking in truth.

The Origins of the Gregorian Calendar
The calendar most of the world follows today—called the Gregorian calendar—was established by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582. It was a modification of the Julian calendar, itself a Roman invention created by Julius Caesar. While it was meant to correct the “drift” of days over centuries, it did nothing to return timekeeping to YAHUAH’s standards.
The Gregorian calendar is rooted in paganism:
Month Names:
January is named after Janus, the two-faced Roman god of beginnings.
March is for Mars, the god of war.
June honors Juno, queen of the Roman gods.
August is for Emperor Augustus Caesar.
Days of the Week:
Sunday = Sun worship (Sol Invictus).
Monday = Moon day.
Saturday = Saturn’s day (god of death and harvest).
This calendar has no relationship to the agricultural, lunar, or Torah-based timing YAHUAH gave to His people.
The Biblical Calendar: Set by the Heavens, Not Rome
Unlike the fixed months and man-made structure of the Gregorian calendar, the biblical calendar is observed through the signs in the heavens, as Genesis 1:14 declares.
Key Scriptural Foundations:
Genesis 1:14
“And YAHUAH said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven… and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.”Exodus 12:2
“This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.”
— Spoken to Moses, this establishes Abib (Nisan) as the beginning of the biblical year—not January.Psalm 104:19
“He appointed the moon for seasons…”
— The Hebrew word for seasons here is moedim, referring to divine appointments like Feast Days.
The biblical year begins with the sighting of the new moon closest to the Aviv barley ripening in the land of Israel—signifying readiness for Passover. Each month is renewed by the visible crescent new moon, and festivals follow from that point forward.
The Sabbath and Feast Days Require YAH’s Calendar
Keeping the commandments requires knowing the proper timing of events. The seventh-day Sabbath, the Feast Days, and other appointed times must be calculated from the biblical calendar—not man-made systems.
Examples:
Leviticus 23 lays out the schedule of all Feast Days:
Passover
Unleavened Bread
First Fruits
Shavuot
Feast of Trumpets
Day of Atonement
Feast of Tabernacles
All of these rely on correct counting of days from the new moon, from barley harvest, or from Sabbath cycles. If you’re using a pagan calendar, you are celebrating them out of order or not at all.
Proof the World’s Calendar Is Pagan
Let’s examine more plainly how the modern calendar system is steeped in idolatry:
Sunday Worship: In honor of Sol Invictus, the unconquered sun god.
Saturn’s Day: Saturn is a god associated with death, bondage, and child sacrifice.
March (Mars): Month of war.
December 25th (Christmas): Date of Mithra and Tammuz births—not YAHUSHUA.
Deuteronomy 12:30-31
“Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them… and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.”
The pagan calendar does exactly what this scripture warns against—adopting the timing and practices of false gods and mixing them with faith in YAHUAH.
Why Hebrew Israelites Must Return to YAH’s Calendar
This is more than just a matter of dates—it’s a matter of identity, obedience, and spiritual alignment.
Daniel 7:25
“And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints… and think to change times and laws…”
The beast system has successfully changed both. It has replaced the true Sabbath with Sunday. It has replaced YAH’s feasts with Christmas and Easter. It has replaced YAH’s calendar with the Gregorian system. Those who return to the ancient path must also return to the ancient calendar.

How the Calendar Is Being Restored Today
Many Hebrew Israelites are now:
Watching the sighted new moon to begin months.
Waiting for the Aviv barley in Israel to mark the new year.
Rejecting the Gregorian dates for Feast observance.
Using tools like lunar-solar calendars, community moon watchers, and Torah-based calculators.
This grassroots restoration is part of the awakening prophesied in Ezekiel 37—the bones are coming back together, and time is part of that divine reconstruction.

Redeeming the Time Before YAHUSHUA’s Return
Ephesians 5:15-16
“See then that ye walk circumspectly… redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”
Redeeming the time means we must first know what true time is. The biblical calendar is a roadmap of YAHUAH’s plan for His people. Every Feast points to a past or future event in redemptive history. To walk in righteousness, we must align with His clock, not Caesar’s.
Isaiah 58:12
“And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations…”
It’s time to return. Time itself has been hijacked—but through the Spirit and the Scriptures, we can reclaim it.
